Omniterrum.com - Our New Website for Globes

It was a pretty hectic period once I decided to leave DC. I was needing to sell off all my belongings in addition to my inventory, drive to home to Texas and then move over to Krakow. As all of this was going on, a friend called and asked if I would be interested in taking over her webstore that specialized in antique and vintage world globes. It was terrible timing, but it was a very intriguing offer.

Long story short, I ended up making Lynchburg, Virginia my first stop and bought the website. Kim has put together an amazing site with great inventory and a huge volume of resources for people researching their own globes. I'm very proud to have been entrusted with carrying on the legacy of Omniterrum.com.

If you have never visited, please take a look. We are also active on Facebook as Omniterrum and on Instagram as @Omniterrum_Globes!

Heading to Ukraine! Any Requests?

I'll be in Ukraine this week - mainly Kiev and Lviv - so please feel free to reach out and submit a Wish List of items you'd like to see me bring back. Cyrillic signs, Ukrainian crafts, Soviet propaganda etc.

New Items in Texas!

Despite living in Krakow for a few months, I've still been busy collecting great items back in Texas! In the last week I've picked up two amazing Coca-Cola signs, a huge Denoyer-Geppert chalkboard World Map and a few great globes. The Coke signs are available for pick up in Austin while the map and globes can be shipped anywhere.

European Finds are On the Website!

Finally! The wait is over and I'm actually getting the first items listed to the website. The first batch of 7-8 items were added today and another 15-20 will be added in the next few days. Be sure to follow on Instagram as several great pieces have already sold to buyers there! Our username is @ClevelandParkVintage - not exactly clever but it works!

Transitions...

After a lot of back and forth, I decided to leave DC and head to Europe for several months with a brief stop in Texas. As a result of the move, I have sold off most of my listed items. I will be working hard over the next few weeks to quickly fill out the website again with great items that were in my personal collection including framed panoramic photographs, vintage travel guides, and many others that I had in storage in Texas.

Once I get to Europe, Ill continue working to improve the functionality of the website as well as searching out the best junk in Europe. It should be an exciting time. I hope you will enjoy the changes as well.

Please keep checking in and let me know if there are items you'd love to see added. I encourage you to email me your "Wish List" as well.

1880s World Globe with Cast Iron Stand by Baker Pratt / Andrews

Our latest discovery is currently up on eBay! Here's the rundown:

We were thrilled to find an incredibly scarce globe circa 1880. There are only a handful of globes known to exist from Baker Pratt and Co. They (Baker Pratt and Co.) are often referred to as an English company, but were actually based in New York City where they sold all manner of school supplies. Prices on Baker Pratt globes in good condition are in the thousands. See Murray Hudson's website or 1st Dibs for price comparisons.

Baker Pratt most likely bought globes from another American maker, Andrews of Chicago, and put on their own cartouche (label) and sold it under their name. This theory is strengthened by the discover of this globe which features an amazing cast iron base and 12 sided horizon ring which are both hallmarks of Andrews. In fact, there is a similar Andrews globe currently listed on eBay for around $5K.

Unfortunately, this globe is not in very good condition. There is considerable paper loss on two gores and the entire Northern Hemisphere is very soiled. The horizon ring is missing the zodiac signs and need some minor repair to one joint. The cast iron base and the brass meridian, however, are in great shape.

This is the perfect globe for someone who is looking to restore or needs parts for another restoration project.

APRIL BOOK CLUB

Every day in the month of April, we will be adding a handful of books to the website. At the end of the month we expect to add between 125 and 175 books. Everything from travel guides to classic literature to vintage school books to biographies to poetry and beyond.

The newest books will be added by lunch. Check back often for the newest titles and special rates!

Written entirely in Hebrew and Yiddish, the books divide the torah up into smaller section and then offer commentary by the rabbi best known as Malbim. The ebay listing number is 251893787733. Offers accepted.

Let's Make a Deal!

Getting our products to the right people is the most important part of what we do. So if you love something posted on the site but aren't thrilled with the price - shoot us a line in the contact section and let us know your best price. You aren't going to hurt our feelings. If we can do better on the price, we will!

Thanks to UrbanDaddy!

We got a great write up today on Urban Daddy! Very exciting stuff - a huge thank you to them.

Finally had a good weekend of buying this weekend after spending much of the last few months concentrating on building up the site. Look for a rare 46 star flag, an early edition of Uncle Tom's Cabin, hand-made wooden Tommy Gun toy, a leather bound collection of Shakespeare, and many more to be posted in the next few days.

The highlight of the weekend, however, will take a little while longer to post as I have a ton of research to do to find out exactly what I bought. I'll post more on these fascinating leather bound books soon...

Thanks again to everyone who has stopped by to take a look. Be sure to leave us your feedback and contact us if you are looking for specific pieces, I'd love to help you out!
